چکیده

Abstract We present proper motion measurements of the oxygen-rich ejecta LMC supernova remnant N132D using two epochs Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys data spanning 16 years. The motions 120 individual knots gas were measured and used to calculate a center expansion (CoE) α = 5 h 25 m 01.ˢ71 δ −69°38′41.″64 (J2000) with 1 σ uncertainty 2.″90. This new CoE measurement is 9.″2 10.″8 from previous estimates based on geometry optically emitting ejecta. also derive an explosion age 2770 ± 500 yr, which consistent recent ≈2500 yr made 3D reconstructions. verified our automated procedure that detected tracked 137 knots, 73 overlap visually identified knots. find are still ballistic, despite remnant’s age, notion expanding into interstellar medium cavity. Evidence asymmetry parent observed. Using corresponding we compare other remnants studies.

Observing supernova 1987A with the refurbished Hubble Space Telescope.

Observations with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), conducted since 1990, now offer an unprecedented glimpse into fast astrophysical shocks in the young remnant of supernova 1987A. Comparing observations taken in 2010 with the use of the refurbished instruments on HST with data taken in 2004, just before the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph failed, we find that the Lyα and Hα lines from sho...

Hubble space telescope expansion parallaxes of the planetary nebulae

We have combined two epochs of Hubble Space Telescope WFPC2 imaging data with ground-based expansion velocities to determine distances to three planetary nebulae (NGC 6578, NGC 6884, and IC 2448). We used two variants of the expansion parallax technique—a gradient method and a magnification method— to determine the distances. The results from the two methods agree to within the errors. A fourth...

Hubble Space Telescope NICMOS Polarization Measurements of OMC-1

We present 2 μm polarization measurements of positions in the BN region of the Orion Molecular Cloud (OMC-1) made with NICMOS Camera 2 (0.2 resolution) on Hubble Space Telescope. Our goals are to seek the sources of heating for IRc2, 3, 4, and 7, identify possible young stellar objects (YSOs), and characterize the grain alignment in the dust clouds along the lines-of-sight to the stars. Our res...

THE CHEMICAL DISTRIBUTION IN A SUBLUMINOUS TYPE Ia SUPERNOVA: HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE IMAGES OF THE SN 1885 REMNANT

SN 1885 was a probable subluminous SN Ia that occurred in the bulge of the Andromeda galaxy, M31, at a projected location 1600 from the nucleus. Here we present and analyze Hubble Space Telescope images of the SN 1885 remnant seen in absorption against the M31 bulge via the resonance lines of Ca i, Ca ii, Fe i, and Fe ii. Viewed in Ca ii H and K line absorption, the remnant appears as a nearly ...

COSMOS : Hubble Space Telescope Observations

The Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) was initiated with an extensive allocation (590 orbits in Cycles 12-13) using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) for high resolution imaging. Here we review the characteristics of the HST imaging with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) and parallel observations with NICMOS and WFPC2. A square field (1.8⊓⊔) has been imaged with single-orbit ACS I-F814W expos...
